Our Services

In our Transplant Surgery Department, we offer a wide range of services to address the needs of patients requiring solid organ transplantation. Our expert team specialises in:

  • Kidney transplantation, including living donor transplantation and transplantation from deceased donors.

  • Liver transplantation for patients with cirrhosis, liver cancer, and other liver conditions.

  • Care for post-transplant patients, including transplant follow-up, management of immunosuppressive medication, and treatment of complications.

Academic Excellence and Research

The Transplant team at the University of Cape Town's General Surgery Department is committed to advancing the field of transplantation through research. Our research efforts are focused on several key areas, including:

  • Extracorporeal organ support during transplantation to improve outcomes for patients receiving a transplant.

  • Improving access to dialysis and transplant services in South Africa, particularly in underserved areas.

  • Development of innovative surgical techniques to improve transplant outcomes and reduce complications.
