Our team of vascular specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional surgical care for patients with disorders of the blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels. We are committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research to continuously improve treatment outcomes and advance the field of vascular surgery.

Our Services

In our Vascular Surgery Department, we offer a comprehensive range of services to address conditions affecting the blood vessels. Our expert team specialises in:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of arterial diseases, such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), carotid artery disease, and aortic aneurysms.

  • Management of venous diseases, including varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and venous ulcers.

  • Treatment of lymphatic disorders, including lymphedema.

  • Minimally invasive endovascular procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting, to improve blood flow and alleviate symptoms.

  • Surgical interventions, including bypass grafting and endarterectomy, for more complex vascular conditions.

Academic Excellence and Research

The Vascular Surgery team at the University of Cape Town's General Surgery Department is actively involved in research to advance the understanding and treatment of vascular diseases. Our research interests are vast, and we are particularly focused on the use of endovascular ultrasound for treating venous disease. The exploration of endovascular ultrasound techniques allows us to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment interventions for venous conditions, leading to improved outcomes for patients.
